ABSTRACT
Upon privatisation of the water industry in Britain under the Water Act 1989 the National Rivers Authority (NRA) was established on 1 September 1989 in England and Wales. As a statutory, regulatory body, independent of Government and industry, the NRA is currently responsible for overseeing water resources and the environment, more specifically, for pollution prevention, land drainage and fisheries.
