T h e need for n e w me thods of s t ream gauging arose basically from the requi rements to measure the flow in rivers at locations where convent ional me thods proved unsui table . T h e moving boat me thod is one such m e t h o d (Chapter 11) , the e lec t romagnet ic me thod another (Chapter 13) , and the ul trasonic me thod a third.
