ABSTRACT
T h e s tage of a s t ream is the he ight of the water surface above an es tabl ished da tum plane . T h e water surface elevation, referred to some arbitrary or p rede te rmined gauge datum, is k n o w n as the gauge height. Gauge height is often used in terchangeably wi th the more general term ' s tage 7 a l though gauge he ight is more appropriate w h e n used to indicate a reading on a gauge . S tage or gauge he ight is usual ly expressed in met res and hundred ths or thousand ths of a met re depending on the accuracy required.
