ABSTRACT

Abstract Experiments have been performed with two bridge test elements where the reinforcement was made of fiber reinforced plastics. These full scale elements, which were designed in accordance with the Swedish Bridge Code 88, were produced with glass fiber reinforced plastics as prestressing strands and carbon fiber reinforced plastics as ordinary reinforcement respectively. These tests included a verification of code requirements in bending and in shear loading, fatigue loading, and a determination of the ultimate load capacity. Results show that both elements had a satisfactory load capacity but that deflections were too large for the element with carbon fiber reinforced plastics reinforcement.
