ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT. Concrete pavers have been in service on aircraft pavements since the early 1980’s when small trial areas were installed on aircraft stands at Luton Airport. This paper reviews early experience of pavers on aircraft pavements both in the UK and abroad. In most cases, experience has been satisfactory but in one area, several incidents have caused questions to be raised regarding the suitability of paVers for some categories of aircraft pavements. This paper examines the experience of pavers to date and draws conclusions regarding the applicability of pavers on different types of aircraft pavements. It contains recommendations for designers, constructors and users of all types of airside pavements surfaced with pavers. It draws conclusions regarding the suitability of pavers in aircraft pavements.
