ABSTRACT

Induction heating of drums of additives for blending lubricating oils was adopted by Esso at Purfleet to replace heating in steam ovens using oil-fired boilers. The result was a saving in energy of 99 per cent, in energy cost of 93 per cent and a reduction of 97 per cent in C02 emissions. Other benefits were a reduction of heating time from 8 hours to 2 hours,

more flexibility of operation and more consistent oil mixture quality with better temperature control, a 50 per cent reduction in additive wastage, reduced drum corrosion and hence fewer rejects and a saving of 25 m2 of floor space.
