Abstract Whenassessingcompositeconcretebridgesitissometimesfoundthattheinterface reinforcementisinadequatelyanchoredaccordingtocurrentdesignand/orassessment codes.Theproblemofassessingsuchstructuresisconsidered.Theresultsare presentedoftestsonsixcompositebeamswithinadequatelyanchoredinterface reinforcementhavinganchoragesofbetween2.5and11.25bardiameters.Current codepredictionsofstrengtharefoundtobeconservativeandlessconservative proceduresareproposedbasedonamodifiedshearfrictionapproach.
