ABSTRACT

Abstract British Steel is currently leading a large pan-European research and demonstration project which concerns the behaviour of the BRE multi-storey steel framed test structure (located at Cardington, UK) when subjected to fire attack. The overall aim of this project is to bring about a more rational approach to assessing the inherent fire resistance of modern steel structures. This paper explains the background to the large project including details of four large scale fire tests and associated numerical modelling work. Keywords: multi-storey frames, steel frames, fire engineering, numerical modelling.
