ABSTRACT

Abstract In this paper, the effect of hoop reinforcement on the punching shear resistance of flat slabs is examined. Test results from experiments on slab-column connections with or without shear reinforcement are presented, compared and discussed. It is shown that hoop reinforcement when placed at the right distance away from the column can significantly increase the punching shear capacity of the slab, but not the ductility. Keywords: flat slabs, reinforced concrete, lateral confinement.
