ABSTRACT

Abstract Vibration serviceability of footbridges is addressed in various codes of practice. There are also several guidelines in the literature covering this subject. A review of the various codes and guidelines is carried out in this paper. The main aims of this study were to define frequency ranges of interest and to establish a procedure for calculating the accelerations during the design stage. Case studies oflively structures and tests conducted on two footbridges are presented and used to pursue these aims. Based on the results of the tests, suggestions for further research are also given. Keywords: Pedestrian bridges, vibration, serviceability.
