ABSTRACT

So far, activities by RILEM and SHRP concentrated on original binders, i.e. non recovered from a real mix. However, it is well known, that recovered binders from a mix may show properties which are significantly different to the original state. As long term pavement performance LTPP observation studies have also to rely on recovered binder data, the reason for these differences should be further investigated. In particular it should be clarified, how these properties compare to RTFOT and PAV aged binders. The question should be answered by those investigations, whether in addition to RTFOT and PAV a standard mix and binder recovery procedure for the assessment of binder properties should be recommended.
