ABSTRACT

Thanks to the research efforts recently invested in many countries, there is a growing interest for the characterisation of road binders on the basis of their rheological properties. In particular the complex modulus measured by means of rheometers is becoming a major indicator of the mechanical behaviour and performance. Hence this will become a basic information in the specification of both plain and modified bitumens. For this reason, the RILEM Technical Committee 152 PBM "Performance of bituminous materials" has initiated in 1994 an interlaboratory test on the rheology of bituminous binders which completes the series of interlaboratory tests carried out from 1989 to 1993 in the field of bituminous mix design and repeated loading tests described in chapters 4 and 6 respectively.
