To illustrate this point, a simple case is included here (Fig. 7.1). The new system has to supply four communities - demands 'A' to 'D' - from a single source. One possible solution is to build a main pumping station, four large reservoirs (I to IV) and two booster stations (II and III), and to control the pressure at two places (A and D) by PRVs.
