ABSTRACT
Most developments in structures and materials are incremental. Steel section sizes get larger. Concrete strength increases. The span to depth ratio of flooring systems improves. Foundation technology pushes up load bearing capacity. The weight of finishes and walling systems reduce. And with each incremental improvement a few more storeys can be added to a building.
