ABSTRACT

The early history of the concrete pump is not well documented, but it is known that in 1913 a patent for a machine to pump concrete was filed in the USA. In the 1930s, a German company, Torkret GmbH., began producing pumps designed to pump mortar. These were single cylinder pumps with a 180 mm piston. The development of the concrete pump as we know it today was made during the post war years in Germany. The construction boom, brought about by the need to rebuild Germany after the war, led to the mechanisation of many construction processes including the distribution and placing of concrete.
