ABSTRACT

When a viaduct crosses a deep valley, its very high and slender piers are sensitive to wind excitation, particularly during the construction stage. If the deck is embedded in the pier and built by successive cantilevering of segments, the free standing T shape structure becomes more and more sensitive to wind buffeting during the progress of work. The evaluation of the corresponding forces or displacements is feasible without any wind tunnel investigation but not so much reliable. This paper describes three experimental approaches applicative on this case and any other free standing slender building. Keywords : Aeroelastic Model, Buffeting, Dynamic Response.
