ABSTRACT

Abstract The measurement of drying shrinkage of ordinary concrete is performed under well established standard methods, which give reliable and reproducible results. However, these methods are inappropriate when used to measure the shrinkage of a low water/binder concrete specimen (high performance concrete) because, during the first 24 hours when the specimen is kept in the mould, there takes place, to a varying extent, autogenous shrinkage due to the development of self-desiccation.
