ABSTRACT

The basin climate is temperate continental. Typically, latitudinal atmospheric circulation dominates and western winds prevail in all seasons. For all regions, strong cyclone activity is characteristic. This is accompanied by the intrusion of Atlantic air masses and by precipitation ranging from 300 to 800 mm a (567 mm on average). Precipitation exceeds evaporation by 1.2-1.5 times and, as a result, the basin belongs to the zone of excessive water availability. The coldest month is February (-10.8 to -11.8 °C) and the warmest is July (+16.9 to +17.8 °C).
