ABSTRACT

Abstract In design of concrete structures, it is important to consider not only structural safety but also durability. However, durability problems have not properly been considered in design codes. This has caused serious deterioration in concrete structures. There is no doubt that we have to establish a reasonable design method for concrete structures. This paper critically reviews the current status of design concerning durability and proposes integrated design methods which include structural design and durability design. The direction of technology development is also described in the scope of integrated design.
