ABSTRACT

As we noted in an earlier chapter (see Section 2.4), there are two possible approaches to the business of assembling an anthropometric database: the purist and the pragmatic. In compiling the tables that follow I have adopted the latter. The technique used most extensively is that of ratio scaling, a more detailed discussion of which will be found in the Appendix and in Pheasant 1982a,b. Dimensions marked with an asterisk (*) are quoted from the original sources (M for men only, W for women only). The remainder have been estimated. Details of the sources are given below. Definitions of the dimensions which are tabulated together with some notes on application will also be found in Chapter 2.
