ABSTRACT

Research by Gould et al. (1985) and Bellotti (1990) shows that design methods do not seem to be used as often as expected by the developers of these methods. The wellknown design principle, early focus on users and tasks (Gould et al., 1985), is also applicable to the development of design methods itself. Therefore, we decided to perform an analysis of user interface design in practice in order to determine what kind of methods or tools would be most useful to designers and what requirements have to be met by these tools in order to be useful in practice.
