ABSTRACT

Nowadays, producers of consumer goods, such as audio-visual equipment, often presume to pay full attention to usability during the development of new products. However, user experience regularly seems to indicate the opposite. Often the fast technological development of products appears to bring about an increasing complexity and a decreasing usability. Convincing evidence for mismatches between users and products can be obtained by observing the actual use under everyday conditions. This approach is adopted in a case study discussed in this paper.
