ABSTRACT

Boyling (1991) defined RSI as “A collective term for those conditions characterised by discomfort or persistent pain in me muscles, tendons and other soft tissues. This can be a clearly defined clinical condition or an ill defined symptom complex.” Many terms other than RSI have been used when describing such injuries including work related upper limb disorders, cumulative trauma disorder, occupational cervicobrachial disorder, and occupational overuse disorder. Diagnostic terms include carpal tunnel syndrome, tendonitis, tenosynovitis, lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow), medial epicondylitis, compression neurpathy, bursitis, De Quervains disease, thoracic outlet syndrome and adverse neural tension.
