ABSTRACT

An isokinetic evaluation of limb contralateral and antagonistic muscle group strength can be used to assess muscle function for injury prevention and rehabilitation. Little research has reported isokinetic, ankle muscular function, especially the movements of INV and EV. Need for information on ankle function becomes apparent when consulting the literature. Between 17% and 27% of all injuries in sport involve the ankle (Brady 1990), usually inversion injuries. The nature of soccer is such that it renders players particularly prone to this kind of injury. Bearing this observation in mind, it was decided that professional soccer players would act as subjects for this study.
