ABSTRACT
Future telecommunications will allow people to communicate not only by the spoken word but visually as well. Emerging digital telecommunications, particularly broadband networks, will enable groups of people to work co-operatively while being located miles apart. The range of benefits is enormous but in order to reach their full potential, telecommunications services must be designed in a way that they are easy to use and offer users the functionality they want. Human factors has a vital role to play in ensuring that these requirements are met.
