ABSTRACT

In 1991 the Ministry of Defence (MOD) introduced the MANPRINT Plan for Quality Assurance in Human Factors in the procurement of military land systems (MOD 1990). MANPRINT demands the early analysis and specification of the human elements of any new system with respect to the so called ‘domains’ of manpower, personnel, training, human engineering, and safety and health hazard assessment

MANPRINT provides a formal mechanism to ensure that human factors issues are addressed early and often throughout the development of a new system. The basic principles of its application are that the

suppliers of equipment to the MOD, will regularly analyse and report the consequences of design decisions in terms of their effects on:-

• Manpower, Personnel and Training requirements • Human Factors Engrneering/Ergonomics • System Safety and Health Hazards.
