ABSTRACT

Over the past 50-odd years various academic investigators have reported the development of an incredible number of tribometric instruments which are amazing both in their variety and in the number of them that are based upon physical principles that are known to be disqualifying, owing largely to their inability to deal with the sticktion problem that is well-known to experienced investigators. The result is that most slipmeters are invalid on wet surfaces.
