ABSTRACT
Most of these systems are only effective for workpiece materials that have well defined machining characteristics and for which cutting data is stored within the system’s database. However, in the modern global manufacturing environment machinists are likely to encounter foreign ferrous alloys that are not well known or fully specified. Some of these new materials may require new or innovative methods of machining (König, Cronjäger, Spur, Tônshoff, Vigneau, & Zdeblick, 1990).
