ABSTRACT
This paper details one area of a research project which aims to develop a methodology for business process re-engineering (BPR), (Hammer and Champy, 1993) of Production management Systems (PMS), whilst considering the company’s business and market strategies and organisational structure. The research area discussed applies a classification technique to PMS types, so that reference models can be established using GRAI decision grids. Once the system has been classified, and an ideal reference model has been constructed, a company’s existing system can be related and analysed against the appropriate ideal model.
