ABSTRACT
It is now widely recognised that the cell control function is an important area for research and development. Sited between the strategic levels of area and workstation, Jones and Saleh (1990) consider it to be a pivotal requirement in the CIM hierarchy. Along with this, cell control has to meet real time requirements of manufacturing devices along with slower responding needs of management information systems.
