ABSTRACT
In this chapter a brief review of worldwide activities relevant to regional satellite oceanography will be presented. Firstly, several characteristic examples of multidisciplinary or topic-oriented systems (of national sounding) will be given, then some integrated regional GIS and satellite databases will be described, mostly for coastal zone management applications. Finally, the most remarkable and characteristic examples will be presented showing the utilisation of satellite data for studies and monitoring on a regional scale of specific oceanographic phenomena and coastal zone features.
