ABSTRACT

Rapid industrial development in several regions of the world has led to significant increases in production of chemicals and to growing numbers of industrial facilities which require chemicals as raw materials or intermediates. This has resulted in increased levels of emissions to air and water as well as high volumes of hazardous waste generation. However, in many countries, state authorities, exposed workers and communities, in the proximity of industrial facilities are not aware of these emissions and the associated risks to human health and the environment.
