ABSTRACT
This chapter is about ergonomic considerations in the development of sensory aids for visually-impaired people. It is necessary to consider relevant characteristics of individuals if one is interested in the development of useful designs. Blind people vary greatly in their educational background, and this has implications for the development and use of assisting devices. In many instances, potential problems may be averted if prior instruction prepares people for devices, since user acceptance is always an important consideration.
