ABSTRACT
C3FIRE is a command, control and communication, experimental simulation environment using a forest fire-fighting domain. The goal of the system is to create an environment that can be used for investigation and training experimentation of distributed decision making and situation awareness. C3FIRE can be viewed as a microworld with some important properties selected from a real domain. C3FIRE should retain the important characteristics identified in a field study of an existing military training system used to train infantry battalion staffs. The goal is that it should be a small and well-controlled environment for investigation and training experimentation. C3FIRE generates sessions where a forest fire-fighting organization can experience the task of commanding and controlling fire-fighting units in a forest fire. The generated session can be viewed as a simplified version of the work task in the studied military system reflected in a forestfire extinguishing domain.
