ABSTRACT
The hottest conditions in the northern summer are not found at the equator but in the Saharan interior where the mean reaches more than 35°C. Indeed, the equator is hardly ever the hottest place on Earth, that record belongs to these strongly heated subtropical deserts in their summer season.
