ABSTRACT

Researchers have made great strides in the past few years in determining the cellular and molecular events controlling lipoprotein metabolism. Detailed structure-function correlates have highlighted the unique roles o f specific apolipoproteins in lipid transport, and the recent advances in molecular biology have extended these insights to new levels. The discussion to follow focuses on our understanding o f the roles o f apolipoproteins B and E in normal metabolism and on the impact o f specific mutations o f these proteins in causing dyslipidemia.
