ABSTRACT
Animal models provide excellent systems for studying environmental and genetic factors that cause complex (multifactorial) diseases such as hyperten sion, atherosclerosis, stroke, and heart failure. This chapter describes general methods used in generating animal models, and how these recent advances in molecular biology and genetics are providing new ways of investigating the molecular mechanisms o f cardiovascular diseases.
