ABSTRACT

Because ulcerative colitis was conceptualized as strictly a psychosomatic illness, there is a considerable amount of literature about its psychiatric aspects (1,2). By comparison, the literature concerning psychiatric problems in Crohn's disease is relatively sparse. As with ulcerative colitis, over the past several decades, there has been a shift in focus from etiological psychiatric factors to the psychological effect of Crohn 's disease on the patient and family.
