ABSTRACT

The group of agents known as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) can have deleterious effects on small bowel and colonic mucosa as well as the upper gastrointestinal tract (1-11). NSAIDs specifiCally cause ulceration of the jejunum and ileum (12-14). The clinical manifestations of NSAID-associated gastrointestinal tract toxicity are extensive and include diarrhea, abdominal discomfort, strictures, ulceration, and blood and protein loss (IS).
