ABSTRACT

There has been considerable discussion in the literature regarding spatial reso lution or stray light in FT-IR microspectroscopy. Messerschmidt [26] has claimed that "redundant aperturing" is necessary to guarantee true spatial res olution. However, some of the data presented [27] seem to indicate that the actual peak absorbances of a given sample change with the changes of the redundantly apertured sampling sizes. Perhaps more work is needed before one can understand the advantages of the redundant aperturing FT-IR microscopes applied to a wide range of chemical systems.
