ABSTRACT

Typical reactivity of Fischer and Schrock carbene complexes with Grignard reagents (where the Grignard reagent is acting as a nucleophile) is illustrated in Eq. (4). This reactivity is based on the electronics and molecular orbital calculations for these types of complexes [to]. An example from the literature illustrating this type of reactivity between a Grignard reagent and a carbene complex was reported by Helquist and co-workers, as shown in Eq. (5) [11]. In these reactions, alkyl or phenyl magnesium bromide is added to the cationic carbene complex [Cp(COhFe=CHSPh] [PF 6] . The resulting product is a neutral complex.
