ABSTRACT
Wehavenowcoveredthefourmajorpartsofagoodconfigurationmanagementorengineeringdocumentationcontrolsystem,as showninFigure18.1.Theyareconfigurationplanning,configuration identification,configurationcontrol,andconfigurationstatusaccounting.Eachoneoftheseelementsisaveryimportantpartofyouroveralldocumentationsystem.Wemustbeabletoplanourdocumentationinadvanceofstartingourproductdesign,wemustbeableto identifyallthevariouselementsofourdocumentationincludingthe parts,theassemblies,thespecificationsandwhateverotherdocumentationisneededforyourkindofbusiness.Wemustbeabletocontrol thedocumentationagainstallthefuturechangeswhichmightbemade againstthatdocumentation.Andlastbutnotleast,wemustbeableto accountforthestatusoftheconfigurationanddocumentationforthat product.Asstatedintheopeningsectionofthisbook,itisimperative thatweincludeallofthesefourmajorelementsinanygoodengineeringdocumentationcontrolsystem.Hence,wemustbecertainthatour systemiswell-documentedintheformofeitherengineeringpractices orproceduresusingflowcharts,andwemustensureadherencetothem byallemployees.
