I.INTRODUCTION BerorjujubeisoneoftheancientandcommonfruitsofIndiaandChina.Itisdroughtresistant andcangrowundermarginalgrowingconditions.Inviewoftherecentdevelopmentinproductiontechnologyofthiscrop,thecultivationofbercropisbecomingincreasinglypopularinmany partsofAsia.Thisisconsideredtobeanidealcropforaridandsemiaridareasofthesubtropics andtropics.TheoriginofZizyphusjujubaberisreportedtobeIndia.Zizyphusvulgarisisanative ofChina(1).Thiswasintroducedinotherpartsoftheworld.TheZizyphusspeciesaredistributed throughoutthetropical,subtropicalandtemperateregionsofbothhemispheres(2).Plantations ofberexistinAfghanistan,Iran,Syria,Burma,Australia(3),France(4),andtheUnitedStates (5).Theareaunderthiscropintheworldisnotknown.However,itisgrownonover22,000hain India.
