ABSTRACT

Parts produced through the use of powder metallurgy processing methods can be found in many areas of industry today. Some common parts that are produced via powder metallurgy include gears, bearings, rotors for pumps, cams, levers, magnets, and tool inserts (2). Gears are made by the powder metallurgy process, which, because it does not require machining of the gear teeth, greatly reduces the cost of gear manufacture. Figure 11.1 illustrates some of the products made by means of the powder metallurgy process.
