ABSTRACT
The free-volume theory is that most widely accepted today. The amount of free volume is essentially the same for all polymers at their respective glass transition temperatures, Tg. In essence, the free-volume theory incorporates ele ments of the gel and lubricity theories. Plasticizers increase the free volume available to the polymers chains and thus allows for greater internal chain rotation and unwinding.
