ABSTRACT
The interaction of the jackbolt force and the opposing force of the main bolt creates a bending moment. Since the bending moment is created in a circular manner, the resulting stress in nuttype MJTs is a hoop stress. The hoop stress causes an increase of the tensioner diameter at the bottom and a decrease of the diameter at the top as shown in Figure 33.
