ABSTRACT

Bolt yielding on the finished or supplied fastener often creates problems for the end user. Invariably bolts are the last item to be purchased during the last few weeks of a project's critical path. There is often insufficient time to repurchase. This leads to some surprising decisions:

1. Reduce bolt loads to avoid yielding. 2. Take bolts and use them, regardless of the situation, without tension control. 3. Select an extension-measuring system that will not detect fastener yielding.
