ABSTRACT

As was shown previously, the development of specific integrated circuits to implement fuzzy systems is the most efficient way to design fuzzy hardware in terms of performance and consumption of resources. In particular, this chap ter focuses on digital realizations whose design process is considerably simpli fied, thanks to the aid of CAD tools that automate several design steps. Many proposals have been reported in the literature since Togai, Watanabe, and Dettloff proposed the first digital fuzzy ICs by the mid-1980s. In order to sys tematize the study of these approaches, they are summarized in this chapter ac cording to the way of evaluating the rule base.
