ABSTRACT
In this appendix we provide an overview of the developments and trends in computer networks. Networking technologies have evolved since the 1960s. The Department of Defense funded much of the early work. Then in the 1970s we began to see commercial products emerge. Many standards organizations were also formed to address networking at all levels. Networking and information management technologies essentially resulted in the Internet and the web as we see it today.
