ABSTRACT
Part I, consisting of six chapters, describes supporting technologies for web data management. Chapter 2 provides an overview of database system technology and discusses the impact of the web on this technol ogy. In particular, data modeling and architectures, database system functions such as query processing, transaction management and metadata management are discussed. In Part II we will see that web impacts data modeling and architectures, as well as database functions.
